AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo police have arrested the man accused of leaving the scene of the wreck on South Georgia Street that left one man dead.

Police say 43-year-old Justin Shepherd was booked into the Potter County Jail Wednesday afternoon for collision involving death.

Shepherd is accused of leaving the scene of the multi-vehicle crash that killed his passenger, Eric Gilliam.

Around 1:00 a.m. July 12, Amarillo police were called to the area of South Georgia Street and Southwest 15th Avenue on reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Officials say when officers were enroute to the scene, they were told the driver was walking around and that someone had died.

Upon arrival, officers found a red Lamborghini in the front yard of a home off South Georgia Street.

Officers also found Gilliam in the passenger seat. He died as a result of his injuries.

Officials say witnesses involved in the crash told officers that Shepherd ran a red light at the intersection of Southwest 15th Avenue and South Georgia Street, hitting their vehicles without stopping.

Another witness told officers that he heard the wreck and came outside to see the Lamborghini come to a stop after hitting a parked truck.

The witness checked on the occupants and noticed that Gilliam was unresponsive and saw Shepherd exiting the car.

The witness told officers that Shepherd took off running west.

Documents say the resident of the home where the car was found told officers she saw Shephard flee the scene and run behind the home.

The criminal complaint says that this is when officers learned the car was registered to Shepherd. They also located a cellphone that belonged to him.

Officers showed a photo line-up to one of the witnesses, who identified Shepherd as the driver of the Lamborghini.

Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
