AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Brady Dental provided free dental treatments to veterans and active-duty service members at its fifth annual Smiles for Freedom event.

More than 70 local veterans received free cleanings, extractions, dentures and other services.

“We actually saw a big need in the community for dental work for the veterans,” said Dr. Jordan Short, dentist for Brady Dental Group. “A lot of them were in pain or had infections and they were coming in and needing help.”

Brady Dental offered free screenings for veterans in September and October to help staff determine the best treatments.

“It’s a day of free dental work. We are extracting teeth, we’re doing fillings, we’re taking impressions for dentures, for partials,” said Dr. Laura Turner, dentist for Brady Dental Group.

Organizers said the VA helped connect veterans with the event and referred them to doctors.

Lone Star Oral Surgery also partnered with the event to provide free extractions.

“I think it’s super important that we give back some of our time and energy and all of that to people who have done so much for us in the past and just help to do one thing to show them some gratitude and things like that,” said Dr. Daniel Ripperger, Lone Star Oral Surgery.

Brady Dental says it is grateful for the generosity, support and commitment to help them honor those who have served our country.

“It is just a way for us to give back to the community to say thank you to the veterans who have served either recently or not so recently,” said Dr. Turner.

Brady Dental said it plans to continue serving veterans in the years ahead.
