The third round of high school football ended with Wellington defeating Gruver and Stratford topping Wink in 2A-DII Region 1. Now the Skyrockets and Elks will face off in the Quarterfinals. Happy got revenge on Valley in 1A. Dumas and Canadian’s seasons came to an end.
Two Texas Panhandle high school football players have been selected as Mr. Texas Football Player of the Year Semifinalists: Childress dual-threat quarterback Collin Bishop and Tascosa athlete Major Everhart.
The Regional Semifinal round of high school football kicks off this Friday after Thanksgiving. Eight teams remain and are thankful to be in the gold ball chase including three of the four left in the 2A-DII Region 1: Gruver, Wellington and Stratford.
The Area Round of high school football playoffs kicked off Thursday night for 2A Division II’s Clarendon Broncos and Stratford Elks. Clarendon lost to Wink 64-26 and Stratford topped Seagraves 48-3. Up next Stratford will face Wink in the Regional Round of playoffs.
The number 15-ranked Tascosa Rebels and number 23-ranked Amarillo High Sandies have a chance to surpass last season’s playoff push this week in the Region I Area round. Tascosa faces a similar offense this Friday and Amarillo High meets a familiar foe on Saturday.
