Tony Romo out at CBS Sports following his arrest
(Gray News) - Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will no longer work for CBS Sports, according to reports.
Sportswriter Richard Deitsch posted a statement from CBS Sports on X that said the network and Romo “mutually agreed to part ways.”
“We thank Tony for his contributions over the last nine years and wish him the best moving forward,” the statement said.
Romo, 46, was arrested on July 23 on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. He was placed on indefinite leave from his role as CBS’ lead NFL analyst shortly after.

Romo joined CBS Sports in 2017 after making four Pro Bowl appearances during a playing career that ran from 2004-16 and was spent entirely with Dallas.
His arrest followed a traffic stop on Interstate 43 in Wisconsin. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reported he was spotted unsafely passing cars.
The sheriff’s office said Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested, booked and released. An open bottle of an alcoholic beverage was also found in the passenger seat of his Jeep.
He pleaded no contest to a civil offense for driving under the influence on Sept. 1.
“I own this completely,” Romo wrote on Instagram.
He said multiple back surgeries left him with constant pain, which led to a dependence on pain medication. While trying to get off those medications, Romo said he became dependent on alcohol.
“None of this is an excuse. These are my failures, and I take full responsibility for them,” Romo continued.
CBS Sports said in the statement that JJ Watts will continue his role as lead analyst on CBS Sports’ lead NFL team for the rest of the season, alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.
