AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A man will spend 10 years on probation after a Potter County jury convicted him for sexual assault.

According to the Potter County 47th District Attorney’s Office, a jury convicted Zedekiah Ortega on the charge of sexual assault in September 2026.

During the trial, the victim testified that Ortega assaulted her. The jury also heard testimony from the sexual assault nurse, the victim’s mother, and law enforcement who investigated the case.

Ortega had no previous felony convictions, making him eligible for probation.

The jury sentenced Ortega to 10 years in prison but recommended his sentence be probated.

The district attorney’s office says as required by law, the judge probated the sentence and placed Ortega on 10 years of probation.

Ortega will be required to register as a sex offender for life. A lifetime protective order also prohibits him from contacting the victim again.

“We are grateful to the victim in this case for her courage and hope that others will be inspired by her example,” said District Attorney Jason Herring.
