CHILDRESS, Texas (KFDA) - The boil water notice for the City of Childress has been lifted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality after nearly a month.

Childress Mayor Cary Preston says the boil water notice for the city has been lifted by the TCEQ after taking the necessary corrective steps to restore the quality of the water.

The boil water notice went into effect September 8 due to low disinfectant residuals in the Childress public water system caused by extreme heat and high ground temperatures which led to evaporation.

After multiple tests, the TCEQ has deemed the water no longer requires boiling before being used.
