AUSTIN, Texas (KFDA) - Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that a Fire Management Assistance Grant has been approved for the Stinky Fire in Potter County.

Officials say the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved a request from the state of Texas for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) for the fire.

The grant makes the state eligible for 75% reimbursement from the federal government for eligible costs associated with wildfire suppression.

The Stinky Fire in Potter County has burned around 2,500 acres and is 30% contained as of 5:45 p.m. May 19.

The fire prompted evacuations in several neighborhoods. Officials started lifting evacuations Tuesday afternoon for some residents in impacted areas.

Gov. Abbott previously announced on May 16 that officials also approved the same grant for the Hungate Fire in Randall County.

As of Tuesday, the Hungate Fire has burned over 34,000 acres and is 95% contained.

State wildfire response resources remain available to support local wildfire response efforts.

Gov. Abbott also increased the Texas State Emergency Operations Center readiness level for severe weather threats across the state.
