3 pets dead, 2 people displaced due to house fire on Marrs Street Thursday evening
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Three pets are dead and two people are displaced due to a house fire near Northeast 16th Avenue and North Marrs Street.
The Amarillo Fire Department says crews responded to the area after reports of a house fire just before 6 p.m. Thursday.
When crews arrived, they found a single-story house with heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the home and windows.
Officials say firefighters began an exterior attack before moving to inside operations.
Once the fire was under control, crews ventilated the house and targeted hotspots.
Officials say no human injuries were reported, but two dogs and a cat were found dead inside.
The American Red Cross is assisting with two displaced residents with temporary accommodations.
Officials say the house sustained heavy damage; an estimated total damage has not been determined.
The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office responded and determined the fire started in a bedroom near an electrical outlet but cannot determine an ignition source.
The cause has been classified as undetermined.
The fire department encourages residents to regularly check electrical cords, outlets and appliances for signs of damage or overheating.
