AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo police are asking for the public’s help in an investigation into a shooting that killed an 18-year-old man in July 2025.

Police responded on July 27, 2025, to NW 2nd and N Adams after dispatch received multiple calls reporting shots fired, according to investigators.

Investigators said a fight broke out outside a bar involving multiple people.

Damarian Grear, 18, had walked about a block away to his car when six to eight people started shooting, according to investigators.

Officers found Grear inside a car with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Sgt. Joel Hodges, cold case unit for the Amarillo Police Department, said:

“That is my plea. This is a, it’s considered a cold case right now because I can’t, I have nobody else to talk to. The one, the kids that were out there, they’re either saying they didn’t see anything or the kids that were there that did talk to us are not telling us the whole truth. Possibly we need is we just need some of these kids to come forward. The biggest issue we’re having with this is that nobody wants to talk to us.”

Hodges said he told Grear’s grandmother, adding:

“She lives in that neighborhood and that community these people just, they just want some help too. She’s a very sweet lady. She’s very frustrated. She’s frustrated at the police. She’s frustrated at her community for not helping, you know, figure out what happened to her grandson and 100% understandable.”

Hodges said a case becomes cold when officers stop having people to talk to or when evidence isn’t conclusive.
