Police identify woman found buried behind garage of Amarillo home

A man is facing charges after police say they found the body of a woman buried at a house in Amarillo.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Police have identified the woman found buried at a house in Amarillo.

In an update Friday afternoon, police say the woman was identified as 31-year-old Faith Smith of Colorado.

On Oct. 1, the APD Homicide Unit received information on a possible homicide that a woman from Colorado had been shot and buried in Amarillo.

Police say the woman was shot in a car somewhere in Amarillo.

The APD Homicide Unit identified possible witnesses and confirmed the details they received.

Police identified 48-year-old Leonard Torres as a suspect.

Torres was found driving the same suspected vehicle.

After a short chase, police took him into custody. Officers were then able to obtain further information on where the woman was buried.

The Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Homicide investigators responded to a home on Orange Street in the Hamlet neighborhood.

Police say they located a burial site behind a detached garage that was under construction.

Police then recovered Smith’s body. An autopsy has been ordered.

Torres was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
