Former ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ star Joe Amabile says he has brain tumor

(Gray News) - Former “Bachelor in Paradise” star Joe Amabile has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

In a video he shared Monday, Amabile said doctors discovered what appears to be an early-stage glioma brain tumor.

“So a little medical update. I didn’t share my Prenuvo results [full-body scan] because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain,” Amabile said. “So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor.”

A glioma is a type of primary tumor found in the brain and spinal cord, and they account for about 80% of all malignant brain tumors, according to Cleveland Clinic.

Amabile is scheduled to have brain surgery in two weeks to remove the tumor.

“I’m doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends,” he said.

Amabile’s wife Serena Pitt commented on the post, saying, “You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together. I love you.”

Amabile, who is also known by fans as “Grocery Store Joe,” first appeared on season 14 of “The Bachelorette.” He then appeared on seasons five and seven of “Bachelor in Paradise.” During season seven, he met his wife.
