AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A man serving supervised release for a federal child pornography conviction will appear before an Amarillo judge today.

Homeland Security Investigations arrested James Galen Brown in June 2012 after an investigation showed he was sharing child pornography through his cell phone.

Court documents show that Brown found people interested in child pornography in an internet chat group and obtained their numbers.

He then sent text messages with attachments of child pornography to these people.

A federal judge convicted him and sentenced him to 108 months in prison with 10 years supervised release after he finished his sentence.

Brown was released from federal prison in October 2020 and began serving his term of supervised release.

Part of his terms of release is that he cannot consume any pornographic materials--adult or child.

A probation revocation filed in April 2024 states that Brown admitted to his probation officer that he viewed adult pornography on an unauthorized cell phone.

He also told his probation officer that he threw away the cell phone three weeks before his admission.

A judge ordered Brown to serve 15 months in federal prison for violating the terms of his release and ordered 7 years of supervised release.

Brown was released again in June 2025 and began serving supervised release.

In March 2026, a second court filing reporting violations of supervised release was made against Brown.

The court document says that Brown admitted to his probation officer that he viewed adult pornography on a borrowed cell phone one week after his release.

Part of his conditions of supervised release is that he cannot access the internet without permission.

He admitted to consuming adult pornography starting one week after his release from prison all the way through the day of his report to probation in March.

Brown will appear before Amarillo’s federal district judge today to hear whether or not he will be ordered to spend time in prison in addition to modifying the terms of his supervised release.
