Life sentence for Amarillo man in continuous sexual abuse of child case
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A Potter County jury returned a guilty verdict against a man accused of sexually abusing a child for years.
A charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age was filed against George Allen Rogers in March 2018.
The first-degree felony offense involved a delayed outcry by a child who prosecutors say trusted and cared about Rogers.
The trial for Rogers, 41, started last week in 108th District Court in Potter County.
According to a media release from 47th District Attorney’s Office, the victim was sexually abused by Rogers for several years before telling her family members—who then called police.
The victim took the stand to testify against Rogers.
Her testimony was supported by the testimonies of a Bridge interviewer, a sexual assault nurse, police officers, and her family.
The jury deliberated briefly before returning a guilty verdict.
Judge Tim Pirtle sentenced Rogers to life in prison upon the recommendation of the jury.
He will not be eligible for parole.
Rogers has a criminal history that includes arrests for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with child as far back as 2002.
When Rogers was indicted in April 2024, he was added to the Texas DPS’s 10 Most Wanted fugitive list until his capture in September 2024.
The District Attorney’s Office says that his office is committed to continuing to seek justice for any child who has experienced abuse.
