Pitcher Daniel Eagen, outfielder Gavin Conticello ready to bring excitement to opening day
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - With just two days until opening day, the Amarillo Sod Poodles held Media Day at Hodgetown on Tuesday, gearing up for the Texas League baseball season.
Players chatted with local media and shared what they are looking forward to this season. Coaches talked about team goals, and there was a real sense of excitement in the air as the team prepares for another season at Hodgetown.
Eagen wants to set the tone on the mound
Pitcher Daniel Eagen said he wants to build on last season and set the tone early on the mound while also enjoying the area during his second stint with the team.
“Consistency and dependency, I want my team to get fired up when I go out there and pitch on the mound knowing that we have a chance to win that game,” Eagen said.
Eagen expressed appreciation for Amarillo and excitement about spending more time in the community.
“I really do like the facilities in the stadium. The area is a great area. I’m looking forward to, I’ve only been here for, I was only here four weeks last year, so I’m looking forward to get used to the area and the community around here,” he said.
Conticello embraces opening day excitement
Returning outfielder Gavin Conticello said he is excited for what opening day brings, especially being able to show the skills that players have developed and worked on during the offseason.
“Yeah, it’s awesome. You get those opening day jitters no matter what, no matter how many years you’ve played, you’re always excited for the first game. Just all the work you put into the offseason is about to show up,” Conticello said.
