Elderly woman gets 15-year sentence for 2024 wrong way crash near Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A 60-year-old woman who caused a serious wreck in 2024 was sentenced last week.
Annette Outley appeared in 320th District Court last week to plead guilty to three counts filed against her in Potter County.
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree felony
- Intoxication assault with a vehicle with serious bodily injury, third-degree felony
- Driving while intoxicated 3rd offense or more, third-degree felony
District Judge Steven Denny sentenced her to 15 years in prison on all three counts.
Outley’s criminal charges stem from a May 2024 wreck on US-287.
Law enforcement officers at the scene of the crash learned that Outley was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when she hit another car head-on.
When Outley’s blood was drawn at a nearby hospital, her BAC was shown to be .18, over twice the legal limit.
The victim in the wreck suffered multiple fractures and severe injuries, according to the criminal complaint that was filed in April 2025.
A fundraiser for the victim describes how she was traveling through Amarillo on her way to Montana when she was hit head-on by Outley.
First responders had to cut the victim out of the car. The victim’s spent three weeks in the hospital for surgery and rehab.
A Potter County grand jury indicted Outley in October 2025.
Her criminal history includes several convictions for DWI in Collingsworth County and a conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Collingsworth County.
