Heavyweight haul: 72 pounds of meth found hidden in tires during Carson County traffic stop

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A traffic stop in Carson County yesterday turned into a heavyweight arrest.
A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety stopped a car for speeding and failing to signal a lane change on I-40 West, outside Conway.
The trooper asked the driver, 26-year-old Marcos Medina Bejar, several questions about his plans for traveling and noticed some “inconsistencies with his travel.”

Bejar gave consent for the trooper to search his car. As the trooper inspected the underside of the car, he noticed that the wheels had unusual placement of lead weights.
From there, the trooper called in a drug dog to do a free air sniff of the tires. The canine unit alerted to a tire on Bejar’s car.
The car was then transported to DPS headquarters and the tires removed for inspection.
According to the federal complaint, inside each tire was a metal container with packages of methamphetamine.
Altogether, the total weight of methamphetamine found in the tires was approximately 72 pounds.
Bejar spoke with investigators and told them that he was driving to Oklahoma City for payment. The documents state that it was the second trip that Bejar made.
Troopers arrested Bejar and transported him to Randall County Jail where he was booked for the federal offense of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
