Multiple agencies responding to hazmat situation at Cacique Cheese

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Multiple agencies, including Amarillo Fire Department Hazmat Units, responded to a hazmat situation at Cacique Cheese, located at 8501 S Georgia Street.

Officials say that the hazmat situation was due to a chlorine leak.

According to the Amarillo Fire Department, two people were evacuated from the roof of the building. It is unknown if they were exposed to the chlorine.

Seven people were transported to local hospitals.

Personnel have been safely evacuated from the building and all have been accounted for.

According to the Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management, the situation is under control and there is no danger to neighboring residents.

Officials say environmental readings are now showing permissible levels both inside and outside of the facility.
