Amarillo taking precautions for Ebola

Amarillo, TX - The city of Amarillo is making sure they are prepared after a case of Ebola turned up in Dallas.
The health department says right now they are preparing information about the disease to local health care providers.
Mary Barlow with BSA hospital says they are holding a meeting to prepare and educate staff about Ebola.
"We will asses our personal protective equipment, if it is adequate, if it is ready. What do we need to add to that? We are also going to come up with a plan to educate our staff. It is very important that care givers know the signs and symptoms of Ebola" said Barlow.
Barlow says communication is key when it comes to treating patients who could potentially have the disease.
"It is very important to ask that patients, have you traveled to one of the 4 countries on the African continent that are involved in the Ebola epidemic. If the answer is yes, then how we treat that patient, where we take care of that patient will go into effect" said Barlow.
A doctor at Texas Tech's Health Sciences Center, J. Scott Milton, says, the chances of getting the flu are much greater than Ebola for our area.
Amarillo's Health Departments says they are providing local hospitals any information from the CDC and The Department of State Health Services about Ebola.
