‘This baby is gone’: 12-year-old girl killed in crossfire at youth football game
BALTIMORE (WBAL) - A 12-year-old girl was killed and a woman was injured when gunfire erupted at a youth football game.
The shooting happened Saturday in Baltimore.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley said preliminary information indicated there were two shooters who were arguing over a parking space before gunfire erupted.
Officials said a 12-year-old girl, who was not immediately identified, was shot and killed in the crossfire. A woman was also injured with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say two men also walked into hospitals seeking treatment from the incident.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the shooting is one of the most “disgusting things” he’s ever seen in his life.
“We will find him. We will bring them here and bring them to justice for their family, but that’s not going to bring her back. That’s not going to stop these other kids from having the trauma of seeing somebody they know get shot and killed. That’s not gonna heal these folks. Two men got into a basic argument, and now a 12-year-old is gone,” he said.
“But two men — or so-called men — got into an argument, and now this baby is gone, never going to see her full potential. Her family is going to be hurting for this for the rest of their lives. Her classmates are going to be hurting. Her community is going to be hurting because people can’t handle their conflict in a different way,” Scott continued.
There was no information on potential suspects or arrests in the investigation.
