Police: Woman’s body found buried behind garage of Amarillo home
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A man is facing charges after police say they found the body of a woman buried at a house in Amarillo.
According to a release from the Amarillo Police Department, the Homicide Unit received information on a possible homicide that a female from Colorado had been shot and buried in Amarillo.
Police say the woman was shot in a car somewhere in Amarillo.
The APD Homicide Unit identified possible witnesses and confirmed the details they received.
Police identified 48-year-old Leonard Torres as a suspect. He was found driving the same suspect vehicle.
After a short chase, police took him into custody. Officers were then able to obtain further information on where the woman was buried.
The Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Homicide investigators responded to a home on Orange Street in the Hamlet neighborhood.
Police say they located a burial site behind a detached garage that was under construction.
Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from this location. The body will be sent for autopsy.
Torres was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
