Judge rules teen competent to stand trial for accused 4th of July attack plot in Canyon
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A judge ruled Kevin Alexander Hunt is competent to stand trial in a high-profile case.
Hunt is accused of planning a Fourth of July attack in Canyon.
He was indicted on charges including terrorism, attempted capital murder of multiple persons, and possession of components of explosives.
During a competency hearing held today, the court heard testimony from Dr. Emily Morris, the mental health expert who evaluated Hunt.
Morris testified that Hunt understands the charges against him and is able to communicate effectively with his attorney.
Court records show Hunt had been in California undergoing evaluation by mental health experts and has since been discharged from the facility.
Hunt and his lawyer did not raise any argument against Judge Kacksmaryk’s order to restore competency.
No family members, friends, or witnesses were present during the hearing.
The judge confirmed Hunt is mentally fit to move forward in the legal process.
A trial date has not been set at this time.
