Teacher's Group Sues State

A Texas teachers group is suing over the way taxpayers money is being spent.

The Texas State Teachers Association filed a lawsuit against Education Commissioner Robert Scott and the Texas Education Agency claiming the state has no right to give taxpayer dollars to private schools.

President Keith Creager of the Amarillo TSTA Chapter says he thinks TSTA will win the lawsuit.

"I am upset with the fact that Governor Perry has tried for years to promote school vouchers," he says, "And year after year the people of Texas have stood up and said we do not want school vouchers. We want to fully fund out public schools. Now he's trying to find another way of putting vouchers into Texas. Going around the people of Texas and going around the legislature."

Under the grant program students can attend any school of their parents choice, private or public at the state's expense.
