An area bank is being recognized for contributing to higher education in the Panhandle.
Texas Tech hosted a recognition on Friday of a significant pledge toward making Amarillo home to the state's second veterinary school.
Happy State Bank's Chairman and CEO J. Pat Hickman addressed the guests who learned his bank wants to give $2.5 million toward the effort.
The gift would be part of millions privately pledged to build the school near Tech's Health Sciences Center on Coulter.
The Amarillo Economic Development Corporation has also promised up to $69 million toward the approximately $90 million dollar price tag.
