AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - After months of searching the City of Amarillo has filled an open position in the Planning department.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Interim City Manager Terry Childers introduced the City's new Planning Director as AJ Fawver.

Fawver most recently served as the Planning and Development Administrator for the City of San Angelo, where she worked in a variety of roles.

She has been involved in downtown planning, administration of Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones, formulation of area plans and design guidelines, and in creation and implementation of a master plan streamlining the development review process.

Fawver earned her degree from Angelo State University. She continued her studies at Angelo State University and the University of Texas Arlington in their Masters of Public Administration programs.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and an accredited member of the Congress of New Urbanism.

She holds numerous leadership roles at the regional, state, and national levels in the American Planning Association and has a passion for planning, professional development, and community engagement.

Fawver was recently named one of the Top 100 Local Government Influencers by Emerging Local Government Leaders.

City officials believe her leadership, experience, and qualifications will serve her well in Amarillo's effort at neighborhood planning, developmental review, and downtown revitalization.

"AJ is a highly experienced manager and planner who will bring additional strength to the City's leadership team," said Deputy City Manager Bob Cowell. "I'm delighted to have her lead our Planning department and continue its exemplary work."
