AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A 16 year old Amarillo teen has been arrested for armed robbery.
Around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a panic alarm at the K and T Discount Store at 201 South Western.
The victim said the suspect had a handgun, demanded money and cigarettes and then fled on foot. The store owners helped identify the teen and officers were able to track him to a home in the 100 block of North Independence.
Officers spoke with an adult at the residence and said the suspect entered the room as if to talk to police but had his hand inside his pocket. Officers then asked what he had in his hand. According to authorities, the teen then pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot officers, causing a short standoff.
Once the suspect gave himself up, police recovered a toy airsoft type pistol which had the orange tip removed.
The teen was transported to the Youth Center of the High Plains for aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and resisting arrest.
