Amarillo, TX - The Good Neighbor program and Portfolio Resident Services are assisting low income families this holiday by giving children gifts for Christmas.
All year round the Good Neighbor program helps low income families with housing, education courses, tutoring sessions, and more. The organization's goal is to build a stronger community while providing residents with a brighter future.
For the holiday season the program is helping residents of Stone Canyon Apartments by hosting a Christmas party where they will distribute over 100 gifts to almost 40 children.
Resident Coordinator for Portfolio Resident Services in Stone Canyon Apartments, Marie Tarin, said the gifts were donated. "We've had an amazing turn out with a lot of amazing donations throughout the community like Toys for Tots, United, and a lot of friends and family and we are grateful to everyone of them," Tarin said. This year the program not only wanted to help low income families but do something special for the children involved in the community.
Tarin said this year giving special gifts to the children who have worked hard to help their communities. "There are special kids that are going to be getting bikes, these little kids worked hard throughout the year. they do little projects for the community." One young girl took it upon herself to have a few children decorate crosses and distribute them to a nearby nursing home.
Even though Tarin has only been working for the organization for a few months she loves being able to help those in need, especially during the holidays. "I feel so blessed to be able to give back to the community," Tarin said.
