Childress, TX - A former Childress County Sheriff's deputy claims she was retaliated against for taking medical leave.

Former Deputy Lisa Stalcup alleges the Childress County Sheriff's Office violated the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and wrongfully fired her.

According to court documents, Stalcup took approved leave under FMLA to have surgery last December. Stalcup told Sheriff Mike Pigg she would return five weeks later. When she returned to work, Stalcup says Sheriff Pigg informed her she was no longer needed and provided no other reason for her termination.

The lawsuit alleges the sheriff's office unlawfully fired her for taking medical leave protected under the act.

Multiple calls to the Childress County Sheriff's Office went unanswered Thursday.
