AMARILLO, TX - A former Potter County commissioner is now the namesake for a project he worked hard to complete during his time in office.

Manny Pérez served as the commissioner for Precinct Two for 26 years before passing away in 2011.

It was at his burial that the idea came up to name the Grand Street bridge after him.

Pérez worked hard through his time in office to get the bridge built on the east side of town.

City Councilman Elisha Demerson worked with Pérez for several years.

He said Pérez grew up around Grand Street and knew how the trains could often block emergency vehicles, and a bridge was badly needed.

The city council voted unanimously last month to dedicate the bridge to him.

Pérez's wife, Maida, said she is excited to see his name every time she drives over the bridge, and her family is so excited about the tribute.
