Amarillo, TX – Work is underway to repair collapsed pavement on Georgia Street at Loop 335 that occurred overnight following Monday's much needed rain. Repairs could be complete as early as Thursday.

"It appears that the TxDOT storm sewer was damaged during recent utility work, causing a leak under the pavement in proximity to the City's recent excavation," says Floyd Hartman, assistant director of utilities over operations and maintenance. "With the recent rains, it washed out under the pavement causing the pavement to collapse."

Traffic is down to one lane for travelers heading west on the loop, as well as for those traveling both north and south on Georgia Street.

Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution while repairs are made.
