Early morning cattle truck fire

Amarillo, TX - Emergency crews were out early this morning (Thursday, Sept. 4th) on the scene of a cattle truck fire.

The truck was on I-40 East between mile marker 80 and 81 when a flat tire caused sparks to ignite the trailer loaded with 32 head of cattle.

Initial reports came in around 5 a.m. stating the cattle trailer was engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, only one steer died in the incident. The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
