Collingsworth sheriff resigns

Collingsworth County, TX - The Collingsworth County sheriff has resigned from office.

Back in November, Jerry Allen was indicted on two misdemeanor charges. Allen was charged with official misconduct and abuse of official capacity because he hired his step-daughter to work in the Collingsworth County Sheriff's office.

In Texas, it is illegal for elected officials to hire relatives to work for them. Allen resigned and surrendered his peace officer's license as part of a plea deal with District Attorney John Heatly.

Because he surrendered his license, Allen will no longer be able to act as a peace officer in the state of Texas. The charges against Allen were dismissed following his resignation and surrender of license.
