Amarillo, TX - Glenwood and Avondale elementary schools in Amarillo have been chosen to be apart of a statewide leadership expansion program.

Today they had a special visit from the head of the program.

"Raise Your Hand Texas" is a non-profit education advocacy organization.

Avondale and Glenwood are participating in a year long program aimed at assisting principals lead their school.

The president of the program, Dr. David Anthony, explained why Avondale and Glenwood are perfect candidates for the the leadership program.

"The two schools are not troubled schools. They are just very diverse. They have a lot of economically disadvantage students. They do quite well. But in the state of Texas we have so many schools that are struggling because they have economically disadvantage students. We want to find out what works on those campuses and then we want to help those principals gain additional skills. We will use what we learn in Amarillo and apply it to other campuses in the state.

Anthony went on to say the schools have a great system going, but they can also be improved.

Both principals have a coach for nine days assisting them as they lead campus.
