Car fire leaves boy scout troop in need
Dumas, Texas - A weekend camping trip turned into a fiery incident for a group of area boy scouts. The troop in Dumas is now in need of community support to help replace what was lost.
While on their way home from a weekend camping trip, Boy Scout Troop 202 in Dumas experienced some car trouble, which resulted in a small explosion that engulfed their van in flames.
Troop leaders were able to get everyone out of the van before the fire got out of control. However in the blaze, all of the boys lost their personal items like clothing and tooth brushes and camping gear, and the troop is left without a vehicle.
"If anybody has any camping equipment that they could help us build our troop with. Support. We're a service minded organization as well, so if they're helping us, they are helping the rest of the community too because them giving, we'll be able to give back," Robert Hibbs, the troop's scoutmaster says.
Hibbs tells us Troop 202 is a recently reenacted troop. This was the first event for the group.
Troop leaders tell us they are grateful for all donations that have already came in.
If you would like to donate to Boy Scout Troop 202, checks can be made out of Calvary Baptist on behalf of the troop. Any donations can be dropped off at the Dumas EDC, Nelson-Jameson or Calvary Baptist Church.
