Moore County, TX - Several area towns are mourning the loss of five teenagers killed in a car wreck.

The Department of Public Safety tells us a Chevy vehicle carrying five teenagers was traveling westbound on Morton Elevator Road around 3:20 PM Sunday afternoon.

The driver, 16 year old Jacob Paul Stipe, reportedly disregarded a stop sign and a gas tanker traveling southbound on FM1284 hit the vehicle on the passenger side.

DPS tells us both units caught fire during the collision.

The names of the victims have been released to us; 16 year old Jacob Paul Stipe of Sunray, 17 year old October Dawn Roys of Dumas, 15 year old Elizabeth Kay Roys of Dumas, 17 year old Derrek Lee Hager of Stratford and 17 year old Christopher Lee Moore of Sunray.

All five were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tanker was airlifted to Lubbock and remains in critical condition with severe burns.

This is not the first accident at the intersection of Morton Elevator Road and FM1284

In 2011 a Dumas man died after he ignored a stop sign, hit a large bump and was ejected from his vehicle as it flipped several times.
