Amarillo, Texas - An area college is reaching out to single mothers, helping them reach their goals.
WT Students in Free Enterprise, or SIFE tell us "Motivation in Motion" was created because of the community's need to help single mothers who don't have marketable skills.
The program focuses on job readiness and placement, as well as college prep.
SIFE says numerous WT faculty members take part, teaching math, english, and computer skills.
Statistics show, nationwide, half of the families below poverty level are single mother households, and "motivation in motion" aims to not rule these women out of the successful business world.
Mary Dittfurth says, "to be able to get that starting block, to get those marketable skills. WT is granting continuing education units for this program. To be able to put this program on their resume is really going to help them out. And as far as the college prep, a lot of people want to go to school. They want to learn."
The program begins February 28th on the 11th floor of the Chase tower in downtown Amarillo.
The classes will be on Thursday nights from 5 to 7:30, with child care available.
