David Oliver is beyond thrilled and grateful to return home to Kansas and WIBW 13 NEWS.
David was born and raised in Wichita and attended both the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. David started his broadcast career in high school with an internship and part-time job at KAKE TV in Wichita. It was June 1996 when David landed a highly sought-after WIBW summer internship. That experience led to a full-time reporting job with 13 NEWS in November 1996. During his first stint with WIBW David also anchored weekends, and anchored weeknight newscasts through November 2000.
After Topeka, David worked 3 years as a weeknight news anchor/reporter for the #1 television newsroom in Boise Idaho. He also spent 17 years as a weeknight anchor/reporter for a television station in Springfield, Missouri. Most recently, David served in a communications/public relations management position for one of the largest school districts in the Denver Colorado metro.
David’s journalism/reporting work has been honored by state press/broadcast associations in Kansas, Idaho & Missouri. David also earned an EMMY for ‘Team Coverage’ reporting. A major broadcast project that David produced and hosted in Missouri was recognized with a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.
Moving back to WIBW to anchor weeknights with Melissa Brunner is the pinnacle of David’s career. He’s happy to be geographically closer to his two children, Britney and Dawson, who live in Missouri. The return to 13 NEWS also puts David much closer to his family in South-Central Kansas. When David isn’t reporting on impactful and meaningful stories, he enjoys traveling and cooking.
