Texas Panhandle Sports Network
Mike Roden was born and raised right here in the Texas Panhandle in Memphis.
He began his radio career as a weekend DJ for KBGH-AM in Memphis during high school. After graduating in 1979, he also worked for several months at KCTX-AM in Childress before heading to West Texas State University in Canyon.
In 1981, Mike returned to his roots to work at KLSR-FM in Memphis. He eventually became station’s General Manager for several years and it was during that time that he found his real passion in radio, high school sports. His first sports job was as the play-by-play announcer for the Memphis Cyclones in football and basketball.
Mike moved to Amarillo in 1986 to work as a weekend DJ at KGNC before the Talk Radio days. He became the Sports Director in 1989. It was that same year he also began doing color commentary and eventually play-by-play for local high school football, basketball, volleyball and baseball teams on the Amarillo Sports Network, which is now known as the Texas Panhandle Sports Network.
He took over as Director of TPSN in 2007. TPSN merged operations into the Newschannel 10 family in July of 2021.
Mike has two children, daughter Addison and son Avery. He is a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon and teacher of the New Directions class.
