Amarillo police arrest ‘jogger’ for violent stabbing attack
Suspect returned to scene after police arrived, documents say
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo police arrested a man for a violent assault against another man last week.
On March 19, officers went to the area of Southwest 5th Street and South Parker Street for a stabbing report.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim “bleeding profusely” from five stab wounds on his upper back.
The victim and several witnesses described the suspect, “Mike”, to officers.
They explained that “Mike” left the location headed south after the attack.
As officers continued to speak with the victim and witnesses, “Mike” came back to the scene.
Documents say that “Mike” was out of breath, bleeding from several cuts on his face, and appeared to be covered with grass.
Witnesses and the victim identified him as the stabbing suspect.
The suspect denied being part of the stabbing and told officers that he was “just out for a run”.
Officers located a security camera and reviewed the footage.
In the footage, the proclaimed jogger is seen approaching the victim--who was sitting on the ground. The two men began to argue and the suspect is seen attacking the victim.
The report states that the footage shows the suspect taking his knife out and stabbing the victim repeatedly.
Officers presented the footage to the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Michael Noel Beams.
Beams stated that he blacked out and “did not know anything about what had happened”.
Officers arrested Beams based on the security camera footage of the attack along with the witness statements.
Beams is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. In Texas, a second-degree felony carries a punishment range of up to 20 years in prison.
Beams was recently released from prison after serving over 20 years for the murder of a woman near Lake Meredith.
He is currently held without bond at Potter County Detention Center.
