AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Federal court documents filed yesterday reveal how authorities intercepted a shipment of liquid methamphetamines in Hereford.

Joel Lopez, 40, and Juan Quiroz-Rodriguez, 35, were arrested and booked into Randall County Detention Center on a federal hold in March.

The factual resume for Quiroz-Rodriguez shows that on March 13, a Customs and Border Protection officer discovered a shipment of 18 jugs of liquid methamphetamine.

The camouflaged drugs were intended to be delivered to a home in Hereford, Texas.

The shipment was transferred to Homeland Security Agents in Amarillo and they conducted a controlled delivery to the intended address.

On March 21, officers saw Lopez arrive at the address one hour prior to the scheduled delivery time.

An undercover agent delivered the shipment to Lopez, who signed for it.

Lopez then loaded the packages into a van and drove to another residence in Hereford, where Quiroz-Rodriguez was waiting for him.

The agents entered the storage building and found Lopez and Quiroz-Rodriguez trying to get rid of evidence by pouring the contents of the jugs down a toilet drain.

Once the two men were in custody, agents secured a search warrant.

When they were later able to search the property, they found that the men had emptied nine of the 18 jugs.

The liquid drugs had a purity level of 28 percent.

Also located during the search were items consistent with the conversion of liquid methamphetamine to its crystal form.

In the criminal complaint filed in March, it’s noted that at least one stolen firearm was located on the property.

Lopez and Quiroz-Rodriguez have both submitted a guilty plea to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and will appear in federal court for their sentencing at a later date.
