Sod Poodles welcome broadcasters Chris and Stefan Caray to HODGETOWN
Opening Day set for Friday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m.
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Minor League baseball Opening Day starts in just over a week and the new voices of the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Diamondbacks Double-A affiliate, were introduced to the public at HODGETOWN.
“We’re really excited to see a Sod Poodle and all of the Sod Poodles fans that come out because we really love meeting all of these people,” said Chris. “It already means a lot to us, but it’s here and we’re here and they’re still climbing just like this team and we hope to rise even higher.”
The Caray twins come from generations of baseball broadcasters totaling over 120 years of experience. It all started with their great-grandfather Harry Caray, a Hall of Fame Broadcaster. Their father, Chip Caray, has served as a broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves for Bally Sports South and Bally Sports Southeast for the past 12 years and their grandfather, Skip, was the long-time play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Braves. Their uncle Josh Caray is the radio broadcaster for the Rocket City Trash Pandas, Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.
The fourth generation broadcasters are the first identical twins to call professional baseball games together. Chris and Stefan spent the summer of 2021 broadcasting game for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. They also have radio experience doing play-by-play broadcasts for the defending NAIA Baseball National Champions, Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville.
“To have the faith in us to go and continue what Sam Levitt left behind and what everybody else in this great organization has been doing is something that’s extremely humbling and we’re really honored to be a part of this next generation moving forward,” said Stefan.
The Sod Poodles opening day at HODGETOWN is set for Friday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m. against the Midland RockHounds. It’s the start of a three-game series in the Oil-Pan Cup rivalry.
