Amarillo Amazon warehouse construction on schedule, foundation being poured
Here’s where they are in the construction progress.
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amazon warehouse coming to Northeast Amarillo is on track to open early 2022.
The grading on the construction site is complete and now the foundation is being poured.
There’s lots of activity on the property with people working on it 24/7 depending on the weather.
Concrete is finished on all of the west side entrances going on to the property.
“As you can imagine with our growth across North America alone, with these types of fulfillment centers, it’s an accelerated type of timeline but it’s pretty par for the course for us. This is pretty similar to the type of timeline we have with these similar facilities,” said Daniel Martin, operations PR manager for Amazon.
This facility does not do customer deliveries, so Amazon Prime members in the Panhandle will be receiving their packages the same way they currently do.
The orders will be filled in the warehouse, then shipped to their sortation centers. From there, the packages will go out to their delivery partners like USPS, Fed Ex and UPS and they will deliver the packages to the customer.
Martin says at the moment they are not sure if they will use the rail or air service.
“Around parts of the country we do utilize our air hubs and our regional air hubs, and freight, but typically for these types of facilities, the predominant means for shipping is our line hall drivers and our trucking,” said Martin.
He says they are looking for hardworking employees to pick, pack and ship larger customer items.
“We’re really looking for anybody that’s willing to come work with us and be a part of our culture, so you know, we love hiring veterans. You know, if you were recently furloughed or have been affected by the pandemic, come apply when the time is right,” said Martin.
Amazon starts hiring about eight weeks before they open so, once you start seeing job postings online, you can expect them to open soon after that.
