APD: Man arrested on felony warrant after SWAT situation

VIDEO: Officials: Man wanted for assaulting a family member

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Police arrested a suspect wanted on a felony warrant after a standoff at an Amarillo business yesterday.

APD SWAT responded to the situation which occurred about 4:28 p.m. at a business located near SE. 11th Avenue and Grand Street.

Officials said the man, identified as 35-year-old Gabriel Palacio Toquinto, ran from officers last week.

During the chase, Toquinto ran into a patrol car and wrecked into a residence before running from the area.

Police received information on his location early Wednesday and attempted to arrest on the same felony warrant, but he evaded arrest again.

Due to traffic volume at the time, police decided pursuit was too dangerous.

A DPS helicopter was used to follow Toquinto and located him as he drove to a business at SE 11th Avenue and Grand Street.

Officers attempted to arrest him, but he fled inside.

SWAT and negotiators spoke with Toqunito for hours before he came outside and was arrested without incident.

Officials said Toquinto was transported to the Randall County Jail and booked on a federal probation violation and for evading arrest or detention.
