Snack Pak 4 Kids working to make spring break sweeter
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo nonprofit Snack Pak 4 Kids is working to raise enough money to buy over 2,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to give to students over the long spring break.
This year we said, ‘hey what if we work with another nonprofit, and we give our kids a special treat’. We all like Thin Mints so we thought ‘what if we send every student home with a sleeve of Thin Mints in their snack pack,’” said Dyron Howell, executive director of Snack Pak 4 Kids.
As the pandemic approaches a year of hardships, Howell says this type of gift for students is needed.
“It’s been a long year. COVID for our kids started at spring break, so I can’t think of another way to let them know ‘we are committed to you, our community is committed to you’ then giving them something special over that long one week break that they have,” said Howell.
Not only will the fundraiser benefit students receiving the cookies, but also have an impact on girl scouts helping pack the meals.
“I know some kids out there, they don’t get a lot of meals, they only get lunch meals at school. At home they don’t have any and on the weekends I know it’s really hard because school doesn’t go on,” said Aubrey Larson, girl scout.
Teaching young girls the importance of a meal and going the extra mile.
“To help the kids, the snack packing is really easy. You get to help a lot of people who don’t get food a lot,” said Arya Babb-Ampson, girl scout.
Making the partnership beneficial for everyone.
“It’s about developing leaders and creating leaders in our community. Certainly that is what they do with the resources and money that they raise is creating leadership opportunities and this is another example of what they do in our community and we’re grateful to be part of that,” said Howell.
Snack Pak 4 Kids is hoping to rase $11,000 in the next two weeks to purchase Thin Mints from Amarillo Girl Scouts.
To donate you can visit the Snack Pak 4 Kids website or write a check to Snack Pak 4 Kids and put ‘Girl Scout cookies’ in the memo line.
The mailing address is 2406 SW 3rd Amarillo, TX 79106.
The nonprofit says 100% of the proceeds will go towards purchasing the cookies.
