Single vehicle accident leaves 1 dead, 2 sent to the hospital
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The high winds we have seen the last few days were a factor of a car crash that has left one person dead and two in the hospital, one of them being a four-year-old.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says on Saturday morning about five miles south of Umbarger, the high cross winds caused the driver of the ford F-150 to drift between multiple lanes.
When trying to over correct, the driver lost control of the vehicle, drove into a ditch and rolled over.
Both the driver and child were ejected from the car.
The driver, Diego Tomas of Dimmitt later died at the hospital due to his injuries. DPS says he was not wearing a seat belt
The passengers, a 24 year old woman and 4 year old child were transported to an Amarillo hospital with serious injuries.
DPS says the child was not secured in a child passenger safety seat.
