AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Two police officers were seriously injured after an intoxicated driver struck a police car this morning, according to officials.
Police say at about 2:59 a.m. two officers were blocking the westbound lanes of Amarillo Boulevard at Madison Street for a structure fire.
Two police vehicles were being used to block the roadway. A 1998 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling west on the boulevard when it struck the first police car on the driver’s side.
The vehicle was then pushed into another police vehicle.
Both vehicles were occupied by a single officer.
Officials say the officers were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Blazer was identified as 34-year-old Angelo Ramos.
Ramos was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of intoxication assault.
Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The incident is under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
