AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The cause of a fire in a vacant dorm building at Amarillo College’s East Campus is still unknown.
Crews responded to the fire at 6:05 p.m. They arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the window of the building.
Crews found that most of the building and attic space was on fire, so a second alarm was called.
Firefighters initially tried to enter the building but were forced to exit when the roof began to collapse.
The fire was called under control around 9:45 p.m.
The extent of the damage done to the building is not known at this time.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion on the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office responded but has not released a cause of the fire.
As of this morning, crews were still on the scene performing overhaul operations.
