AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - We spoke with an eye witness today who describe the terrifying moments as gunfire rang out at the Hogg Penn in North Amarillo.
“You gotta get me to the hospital, you gotta get me to the hospital, they shot my friend they shot my friend," said the eye witness.
About 2:43 a.m. this morning, Amarillo police were called out to the Hogg Penn, a club, located at 2650 Dumas Dr. on a shooting.
Seven people were shot, one of them a 41- year old woman who remains in critical condition at this time.
"It just sounded like really loud fire, fire, firecrackers like 10 11 shots just pow pow pow but one after the other. And when I looked up, I just saw everybody running cars were pulling out. And it feels like a movie, I mean it felt just like a movie. Like to see everyone's like deer in the headlights look, I mean everyone's eyes were huge, like I can still remember seeing people just not knowing what to do just running and it was yeah it was pretty crazy," said the eye witness.
The Uber driver was dropping off three women when one of them said she had a bad feeling and was going to have the driver take her home. As the driver was waiting in the parking lot, he watched groups of people going in and out of the club, and he knew something was wrong.
During the investigation, officers found shell casings in the club but did not get a description of the suspect shooter or shooters.
"Unfortunately, one of the girls that was there is one of my customers was one of the girls who got shot, and she got shot in hand. The story was that she pushed one of the other girls out of the way, and she saw shooting as soon as she saw the gun, and anyway, she pushed them out of the way, and that's why she got shot in hand," said the eye witness. "I felt so bad because the girl that got shot was visiting, she had never been to Amarillo she was visiting Amarillo with her friends and ended up getting shot while she was visiting."
The driver then took the woman he had just dropped off to the hospital to be with her friend.
"It was just a circus over there it was just I counted six cop cars, there were three bus ambulances, a fire truck and then all kinds of friends and family were all outside, and it was insane. One of the craziest nights I've ever experienced Ubering," said the eye witness.
Amarillo Police Department investigators later discovered that six other victims were taken to an Amarillo hospital by private rides.
The ages of the women who were shot are 19, 35 and 22, and the ages of the men who were shot are 34, 40 and 27.
Anyone with information is asked to call the APD or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at (806) 374-4400.
There will be a meeting Sunday in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church basement at 12:30 p.m., where the Chief of Police and the President of the NAACP will discuss the shooting.
