Head-on collision leaves 4 dead, 1 with life-threatening injuries

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Saturday around 11:30 p.m. a fatal accident on U.S. 87 killed four and sent one to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say 12 miles north of Amarillo on U.S. 87 Mario Alberto of Amarillo was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche south in the northbound lanes when he crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Trey Tipton of Dumas.

Mario Alberto, Trey Tipton, a 9 year old boy and 5 year old girl were pronounced dead on scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson.

A 13 year old girl was transported to an Amarillo hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
