AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - This summer, the City of Amarillo, Snack Pak 4 Kids and the High Plains Food Bank hope to feed more kids than years prior.
The City of Amarillo’s Summer Lunch Program begins May 28. The city will provide meals for kids 18 and under Monday through Friday.
On Fridays, Snack Pak 4 Kids will provide a bag of snacks for kids to eat over the weekend.
“So, they serve kids every day in the parks they will provide lunch," said Dyron Howell, Executive Director for Snack Pak 4 Kids. "On Friday, they will also get a bag from us to take care of the weekend.”
For children who do not live walking distance to a summer lunch program location, the High Plains Food Bank provides meals from its kids cafe to a variety of apartment complexes.
“Our summer feeding program is concentrated to apartment communities, where these children may not have transportation or are within walking distance to a park that would also provide a food service program this summer,” said Tina Browhlin, Communications and Marketing Manager for the High Plains Food Bank.
