GRAY COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - Two people were killed and two were injured in a three-vehicle wreck early Monday morning in Gray County.
At 1:00 a.m. on Monday, three cars were involved in a wreck two miles west of McLean.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a truck tractor towing a semi trailer driven by 28-year-old Justin Khashan of Amarillo was headed east on I-40.
Khashan said he saw a single headlight headed westbound in the eastbound lane towards him so he moved onto the shoulder to avoid it. The car headed westbound in the eastbound lane was driven by 18-year-old Collin Lovelace of Owasso, Oklahoma and had 18-year-old Jacob Frogge as the passenger, also of Owasso.
A third car also traveling east on I-40, driven 33-year-old Fungisai Banda of Bentonville, Arkansas who had a 2-year-old boy as a passenger, tried to pass Khashan and collided into Lovelace head-on.
Banda was thrown into Khashan’s path and was hit on the driver’s side of the car.
Banda and Frogge died on scene. Lovelace was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. The two-year-old child was also taken to the hospital but is facing injuries considered to be non-life threatening.
Khashan was uninjured in the wreck.
Everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.
The wreck was investigated by Texas Highway Patrol troopers and they are still working through evidence and witness statements.
